How to start accepting donations as a Dutch streamer

A complete starter guide for Dutch streamers who want to accept donations on Twitch, YouTube or Kick, covering monetisation, iDEAL, fees and setup.

Your stream is growing and viewers are starting to ask how they can support you. That is usually when questions about platform revenue, payment methods, fees and bookkeeping appear. This guide focuses on the parts that are different for creators in the Netherlands.

Step 1: decide where your income will come from

Streamers generally earn through platform features such as subscriptions and Super Chat, sponsorships, and direct viewer donations. Direct donations are separate from Twitch, YouTube or Kick: a viewer follows your link and pays you through iDEAL or card. Read more about accepting stream donations.

Step 2: choose a donation platform

Compare the full payment flow, not just one headline percentage. Check whether viewers can use iDEAL without creating an account, what fixed and variable fees apply, which currencies are supported and whether OBS overlays are included. DonoLink charges 3.5% per donation; Stripe separately charges a EUR 0.29 processing fee.

Our TipeeeStream and DonoLink comparison explains the differences in more detail.

Step 3: create your donation link

Pick a recognisable username, add a profile image and short bio, set sensible suggested amounts and connect the bank account that will receive payouts. Then make a small test payment before sharing the page publicly.

Step 4: add an overlay to OBS

A browser-source overlay turns a payment into an on-stream alert. Add the personal overlay URL from your dashboard to OBS, keep it private, place it above your gameplay source and use the test button to check sound, animation and positioning.

Step 5: organise your records

Donations connected to your content can be taxable business income. Keep payout statements, transaction exports and expenses together. The exact treatment depends on your situation, so ask an accountant or the Dutch Tax Administration when in doubt.

Step 6: invite your first donation

Put the link in your channel panels, bio, video descriptions and chat command. Mention it naturally rather than repeatedly. A clear page, familiar iDEAL checkout and a visible alert remove most of the friction for a first-time donor.

What does it cost?

Account creation and the DonoLink overlays are free. Transaction costs are applied when money is processed, so there is no monthly bill before you receive a donation. See the current details on the pricing page.
